Going grocery shopping has never been something I’ve particularly looked forward to. But at the same time, getting groceries delivered to my home has never really crossed my mind, either. Even over the last year during the pandemic, I’d wait in line to brave my local supermarket aisles in search of toilet paper and boxes of pasta.

But when I heard Walmart+ was offering a free 15 day trial of their membership, I decided to give it a go.

What is Walmart+?

The Walmart+ membership program lets you save both online and in-store with the same low prices you know and expect from Walmart. Some of the benefits include unlimited free delivery from your store on groceries and more*, discounts on fuel, free shipping no order minimum**, mobile scan & go for shopping in-store and—new this month—free and discounted prescriptions***.

The membership costs $98 a year or $12.95 per month, which is less expensive than similar member programs. Plus, your membership comes with an initial 15 day free trial—or 30 days if you answer a few short questions—so you can give it a good test drive before committing monthly or annually.

Given my busy schedule and overall curiosity, I signed up for a free trial of Walmart+, specifically to try out the free delivery service—the most enticing benefit in my opinion. You can shop everything from fresh produce to last-minute gifts and up to 180,000 other items from your store.

Not having to leave the house to stock up on my groceries and household essentials seemed like a convenient and easy idea, especially during summer in Texas.

And guess what? I was right.

Easily order and shop through the website or Walmart app

I opened up my Walmart app and chose the Pickup and Delivery option. You can get free same-day delivery*, schedule for a later day that week or choose Express Delivery to get your items in two hours or less, which comes in handy if you unexpectedly run out of something or you’re throwing an impromptu dinner party.

Since I wasn’t in a huge rush, I chose an hour time slot the next morning and went about shopping.

I needed to restock some pantry staples, get household cleaning items, and shop for groceries and fresh produce for meals during my busy WFH weekdays. Luckily, Walmart’s selection is extensive, and since it’s coming from my local store, I know that my groceries will be picked right before delivery (important for those frozen and fresh items!).

I shopped for items like fresh organic romaine hearts (for my homemade caesar salads), organic baby bella mushrooms, Cape Cod potato chips and baby carrots for snacking (balance is everything, after all), frozen fruit and Greek yogurt for my morning smoothies, toilet paper and some treats for my dog. I was able to easily search and add to cart all of the above and more.

Ordering took under 10 minutes, freeing me up to get along with my day with the knowledge my groceries would be there first thing in the morning. Later that night, I even realized I forgot a couple of items, and was able to easily add them to my scheduled order (with a cutoff time of 1:45am).

Groceries delivered right to your door

The next morning at 8:51am, I received an email from Walmart letting me know my order was out for delivery with the estimated time of arrival (9:07am), the name of the driver and the type of vehicle. And right on time, my groceries showed up on my doorstep!

The whole process was so easy and hassle-free, it had me wondering why I’ve never done it before.

While free delivery from my local store is still the major selling point for me, I plan on taking advantage of the other Walmart+ benefits ASAP, including free shipping and savings on gas. (Summer road trip, here I come!)

*$35 order minimum. Restrictions apply.
**Excludes freight & Marketplace items.
***Not available in all states. The program is not insurance & cannot be combined with insurance.
